SNP members prepare for Sturgeon’s ‘imminent’ arrest amid financial row

Senior SNP members are bracing for Nicola Sturgeon’s “imminent” arrest since she is the only party official identified on their most current financial statements who has not been examined by police.

Ms Sturgeon’s name appeared on the 2021-22 accounts, as did her husband Peter Murrell and Colin Beattie, who have both been arrested and questioned.

Ms Sturgeon has already stated that she will “fully cooperate” with Police Scotland if necessary.

Colin Beattie’s arrest yesterday morning overshadowed Humza Yousaf’s attempted relaunch of his leadership, amid a police inquiry into how £600,000 donated by SNP supporters especially to bankroll a second independence campaign was used.

Peter Murrell was arrested a fortnight ago and questioned by police for 11 hours.

Both he and Mr Beattie were later released without charge pending the outcome of the investigation.
